When a small-town drama nerd discovers his teacher is feeding a gang of burglars target addresses, he starts tipping off his sheriff father — but the burglars stay one step ahead, forcing him to finish the job himself.
Jake plays Mr. Webb in his high school's production of Our Town and has been in love with his best friend and next-door neighbor Abbie for two years without telling her. His father, Sheriff Holloway, is investigating a gang of dirt-bike-riding burglars hitting houses near their neighborhood. Jake's castmate Kelly overhears their drama teacher, Mr. Prescott, feeding target addresses to his brother Wade, the gang's leader. Jake starts passing tips to his father.
Both of Jake's tips put cops on the scene, but the burglars slip away each time. Wade turns on his brother, convinced he got sloppy. Jake and Abbie make things official and plan a date to Junior prom. Determined to stop the burglars himself, Jake sets a trap and makes his own house the target.
When Jake's plan to lead the burglars to his own house goes wrong, they end up at Abbie's instead. Jake draws them into the woods on his ATV, where a mysterious stranger helps him fight them off. He walks away with a fortune he can't explain and a father who's proud of him for reasons he can't say out loud.
